Welcome to the Twickenham Society's Website

The Society exists to make Twickenham a better place in which to live. It seeks to stimulate public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of Twickenham and its surroundings.

IMPORTANT NOTE: FULLWELL GOLF COURSE

An e-petition has been begun with regard to continuing public access to Fulwell Golf Course.

The petition is here and says,

"We the undersigned being residents of the London Borough of Richmond are most concerned to hear via a Cabinet Member that Lloyds Health Club are in the course of applying for a change of designation of the public Golf Course land in Fulwell Park to Private Open Space from Public Open Space. Should such a change be approved, it will result in removal of the public's right of access. We therefore request and petition the Council to instruct the Officers to cease any discussions on any change of use with immediate effect."

Doug says, "It is a bit of a fiddle but worth it as the public were always allowed access to this course before it was sold off to the sports people. Please sign and make your feelings felt."

On reaching 1000 signatures or more a full council debate will be held. This ePetition runs from 24/10/2011 to 24/01/2012.

Saturday 2 July, 2011: Visit to the RFU's Twickenham Stadium

Doug Orchard, Chairman of the Twickenham Society, reports:
Fraser Cullen met us at the RFU HQ and gave us a tour of the new building including the offices. He then handed over to one of the tour guides who showed us around the training rooms, the pitch from a hundred feet up and the royal box, finishing off with a tour of the museum.

The interior decor and finish is to a very high standard and very tastefully done. A lot of thought has gone into the design, not only of the ground but also the internal furnishings with some very nice historical paintings of rugby through the years and old photographs showing how things were.

The ground is a credit to the Borough but also Twickenham and puts us on the map as Twickenham is known throughout the world because of the RFU and of course it brings business and employment to the Borough, something we should all be proud of!
